Harry Potter Spin-Off Movies Release Date Announced; Warner Bros. Pits The Iconic Wizard's Tales Against Superhero Films?

Warner Bros. has announced the "Harry Potter" spin-off movies release date on the following years: 2016, 2018 and 2020. The studio presents the films in a trilogy format, and it will launch them individually following the chronological order of the dates given.

According to The Verge, Ben Fritz, The Wall Street Journal reporter, tweeted the "Harry Potter" spin-off movies release date. They added that Warner Bros. CEO (Chief Executive Officer) Kevin Tsujihara mentioned that the movies would be a trilogy.

Is Warner Bros. planning to rival the stream of superhero movies dominating the big screen these days with the "Harry Potter" spin-offs?

For The Verge, the pattern of film release the studio is following is hinting at this possibility. However, the studio has not mentioned, let alone confirmed anything regarding this observation. According to the site, the studio's CEO made the "Harry Potter" spin-off movies release date announcement during the Time Warner investor event.

The revelation of the dates came along with the announcement of other vital information such as subscription to HBO sans cable service and Netflix's purchase of the rights to streaming the popular sitcom "Friends."

Hero Complex shared other details included in Tsujihara's announcement. These include the following:

First, of the three films comprising the trilogy "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" would be the first one the studio would launch. Second, David Yates, who has directed four out of the eight franchises, directs the said film. Lastly, The original team of David Heyman, J. K. Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram that worked on the previous "Harry Potter" films would also take charge of the trilogy production.

This time, however, J.K. Rowlng herself would be penning the screenplay for "Fantastic Beasts" based on her original story. Hero Complex revealed that this would be the author's screenwriting debut.
