Alison Sweeney's Days of Our Lives stint comes to an end after 21 years.

Sami Brady, Alison Sweeney's Days of Our Lives legendary character, exits the soap after more than 2 decades in running, as People reported.

Alison Sweeney's Days of Our Lives departure was posted on Facebook, by none other than the actress herself.

The actress posted these comments on the popular social media site as she leaves Days' town of Salem:

"We've been through a lot together, haven't we?"

"It was quite literally a dream come true for me ... I'm proud of who I've become as a result of my 21 years in Salem." 

People also reported that Sweeney has already announced her departure from the soap earlier in January this year. Sweeney announced she would be leaving the show later in the year to enjoy more quality time with family.

Earlier in June this year, Alison told People in an interview:

"It was hard to keep it together," as she referred to doing her final scene on the show.

"My kids [Benjamin, 9, and Megan, 5] were there, so I feel like that helped me avoid the ugly cry. But I totally had tears streaming down my face." 

Sweeney did her last scene for Days on May 23 this year.

People reported that Sweeney made these comments, assuring her fans that she wouldn't be gone altogether:

"I'm still going to be around okay?! So this isn't really goodbye. At least it isn't goodbye for me. This is just my opportunity to say a great big, sincere, tearful, THANK YOU. For everything. Every cheer, every tear, every tweet, post and letter. Thank you for investing in me and my character."
