"The Last: Naruto The Movie" teaser debuts. According to Anime News Network, Yahoo! Japan began streaming a full trailer for the upcoming movie on Friday which features the theme song "Hoshi no Utsuwa" (Vessel of a Star) by Sukima Switch. Aside from the trailer, Jump J Books began listing a novelization of the movie. The novel slated for shipping on December 8, is written by Maruo Kyōzuka
"The moon has begun moving closer to the Earth! As it is, the the moon will crumble and meteorites will rain down on the earth's surface," Jump J Books describe the movie according to Anime News Network. "As the last days of Earth approach, Hanabi Hyūga is abducted by a mysterious man in Konoha, and Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Shikamaru, and Hinata set off on a rescue mission!"
According to Latin Times, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" introduces an all-new character named Toneri Otsutsuki. Reportedly, a preview on Weekly Shonen Jump describe him as "a man of the Otsutsuki lineage and is a direct descendant of the Sage of Six Paths and Princess Kaguya Otsutsuki, the first person to consume the fruit from the Shinju tree of chakra." Toneri Otsutsuki threatens humanity with his unique ability to control the moon. Crunchyroll noted that Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass' Lelouch, Spice and Wolf's Kraft Lawrence) voices Toneri Otsutsuki.
Reportedly, "The Last: Naruto The Movie" which premieres December 6 in Japan, is a part of the larger "Naruto Shin Jidai Kaimaku Project" which marks Naruto's 15th anniversary. The film which is directed by Tsuneo Kobayashi is said to be the first after it has launched the ninth film, Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie which opened in Japan in July 2012 and became the highest grossing film in the franchise.
Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto manga franchise head and creator, is credited with the original story; character designs, and is the chief story supervisor of the film. Reportedly, he is also creating the sketches for the characters.
