Samsung Galaxy s5 vs. HTC One M8: Both units received positive phone reviews from critics and users - but which one really stands out? Which of these two flagship smartphones are worth buyers' trust? Here are the tips before buying smartphone, as well as the head-to-head comparison between s5 and M8.

Display

Screen size should be the foremost concern of smartphone buyers as it promotes easy visibility. Between these two handsets, Galaxy s5 has the bigger screen size if we look at the numbers - s5 is 5.1 inches and M8 is 5 inches. But in terms of actual use, there's not so much difference because obviously, we are only talking of 0.1.

There's no comparison between the two when it comes to display resolutions as both units are in full HD resolution (1920 x 1080). When talking of pixel density, HTC One M8 makes images better at 441ppi, as opposed to s5's 432ppi.

Display Technology

Ease of reading and clarity of images are the next issues users should deal with in choosing which unit to buy. Samsung Galaxy s5 vs. HTC One M8: Which one makes use of better screen technology? Galaxy s5 draws on Super AMOLED and HTC M8 utilize Super LCD.

LCD is known for its almost-natural colors and the AMOLED makes pictures look brighter and lively. Super LCD, however, makes outdoor visibility better so users can expect to see screens clearer when outside.  Super AMOLED has been integrated with touch function. It makes pictures more visible and texts more readable even when viewed in direct sunlight.

Hardware

Buyers should also check on the processor. Again, there's no comparison between these two units as they have the same CPU - Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC v3. But s5 should be faster at 2.5GHz as M8 is only 2.3GHz.

Battery Life

Battery life is of another importance. Samsung Galaxy s5 promises 21 hours of talk time and that's already a lot. HTC One M8 is not far behind with 20 hours, but it wins in maximum standby time: with 496 hours as against s5's 390 hours.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy s5 vs. HTC One M8: Samsung Galaxy s5's rear camera is excellent at 16 megapixels. HTC One M8's camera only has 4 megapixels.
