Resident Evil Remastered Release Date

Orders before the Resident Evil Remastered's release date come with a double treat: users will receive both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

The store page confirms the bundle, and it appears the preorder offer is indefinite. According to PlayStation Store, "Pre-Ordering Resident Evil entitles you to both the PS4TM and PS3TM versions of the game. You'll also receive an exclusive theme for your PS3TM system's XMBTM menu screen in your download list after checking out. Play the game on 1/20/15 starting midnight Eastern."

The official Twitter account for the game announced the offer December 23. With the Resident Evil Remastered release date pegged for January 20, users have plenty of time to preorder the game and get the pair. The PlayStation store doesn't state if the PS3 and PS4 versions will remain bundled after the release date, though.

Resident Evil Remastered is an anticipated title in the franchise; apart from graphics updated for the higher consoles, it remains an accurate port-over of the classic Resident Evil from PlayStation 1.

There's nothing new in terms of gameplay other than analog support, but players will surely appreciate the improved graphics, with widescreen and 3:4 aspect ratio options.

Resident Evil Remastered is actually an HD upgrade to the 2002 Nintendo Gamecube remake of the 1996 PS1 game. The release of the first Resident Evil sparked an entire genre of survival action games, and an ongoing series currently has six main RE's in the franchise, aside from spinoffs across different platforms.

Capcom will also release the first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 next year, February 17, with a story arc that revolves around characters from the original game.

Resident Evil Remastered will launch on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Windows PC, for $19.99. The bundle offer is currently exclusive to the PlayStation Store; Microsoft has yet to match it (polygon.com).
