Kit Harington of "Game of Thrones" defends the show's gory and sexually explicit scenes.

The actor considers the HBO series an accurate reflection of real life, especially the part where characters are killed off almost randomly, at George R.R. Martin's whim. So who's going to be next on the chopping block? Jon Snow knows nothing.

In an interview with Radio Times, Kit Harington of "Game of Thrones" commented on the series' very explicit scenes. The actor who plays the bastard with a mysterious background said the violence is necessary. Like fans of the show, Harington considered the barbarism essential.

"I don't see a problem with it because you mostly always feel the consequences of that person dying. In Thrones it's war and awful, awful things happen, as we see on the news daily. And if we've got an appetite for watching these things on the news then you can't shy away from it on cable drama."

Harington compared the death scenes to many real-world deaths, especially the ones highlighted on news media. Those who've watched the show since the first season know no one is safe from the chopping block; villains and heroes are fair play.

Sean Bean was killed off in a shocking climax in Season 1; though fans who've read George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice" knew it was coming, seeing the scene played off on TV made the experience visual.

There's also the Red Wedding scene, a shocker TV viewers were wildly unprepared for.

Critics are apparently more disturbed more by the show's explicit sex scenes, though. George R.R. Martin said there's disconnect in the reception between the sex and violence portrayed in the show.

"I can write a scene and describe in detail a penis entering a vagina, and there will be a portion of the audience who get very upset about that. But I can write a scene about an axe entering a human skull and nobody will complain about that."

Kit Harington of "Game of Thrones" returns as Jon Snow on season 5, expected on the fall or spring; HBO's announcement is still pending. (cinemablend.com)
