Toyota has redesigned its Tacoma midsize pick-up truck, emphasizing tough attitude and general off-road capability.

According to USA Today, the truck has been redesigned since its rival: General Motors' midsize Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon arrived.

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma is said to emphasize "tough truck" attributes and off-road competence, boasting of features that appear to be at par, if not beyond, its market competitor GM trucks.

NY Daily News noted that the Japanese automaker's popular pick-up wanted to extend its lead giving the best improvements to the previous years' models.

Reportedly, the new Toyota Tacoma adopts much of the manly exterior design found on Toyota's larger full-size pick-ups such as the Tundra and 4Runner. The manufacturer stated that the new Tacoma is powered by 4- and 6-cylinder engines that can deliver better economy. The 4-cylinder engine is available with 6-speed automatic transmission only while the other option in new Atkinson-cycle, 3.5-liter V-6 nets offers a choice between auto or manual giving users that stick-shift option. The new V-6 has the D4-S technology, which allows it to switch from port injection under low engine loads and direct injection systems at higher rpms.

According to NY Daily News, the redesigned Toyota Tacoma's price ranges from of $21,000 to $30,000, depending on trim and options. Reportedly, Toyota stated that roughly 40% of buyers choose the more rugged and pricier TRD variants which explain why they brought a Tacoma in TRD Off-Road trim onstage at the Detroit show.

Tacoma's TRD Off-Road model feature unique wheels, hood, and will be more capable off-road with the Multi-terrain select system which, according to NY Daily News, "monitors braking and wheel spin based on whether you're traversing mud, rocks, or sand." Other all-terrain features such as crawl control, hill descent control, and locking rear differential are also available.

The redesigned Toyota Tacoma is now available with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and blind-spot detection system for safer drive. As for other details, Toyota is expected to release more of these soon.
