The "Heroes: Reborn" cast just confirmed "Chuck" star Zachary Levi in a key role; the reboot is expected to be loosely tied to the original series, with Jack Coleman back onboard.

"Chuck" star Zachary Levi just gave the "Heroes: Reborn" cast a major PR boost; a release date is yet to be announced for the series, but with a couple of actors confirmed in roles and a teaser already released, the project is actually making progress.

"Heroes: Reborn" is picked up for 13 episodes on its first season, with an online prequel to be announced. NBC President Robert Greenblatt said fans of the series can expect original characters returning to the fold, though in minor appearances. Noah Bennett (played by Jack Coleman) will return as mainstay, though.

"Jack's the way in, but I think - and I'm not trying to be coy because we just don't know - you will see several of the old cast popping in to episodes."

There are few details revealed on Levi's character, but his previous credits ("Chuck," "Tangled" and "Thor 2") pegged him for the role of the nice guy. Both "Chuck" and "Heroes" debuted at the height of the popularity of geek TV shows, but gradually waned as comic adaptations took over (screenrant.com).

Levi's character could contrast his stereotyped roles, as a villain similar to Skylar; the actor commented on his confirmation for the NBC series' reboot:

"There are a few franchises I've always wanted to be a part of, and 'Heroes' is one of them," Levi said.

"'Chuck' gave me the opportunity to wield some fun powers, but an entire world with superpowers is a world I've always wanted to explore."

"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to work with Tim [Kring], and the awesome team around him, in bringing this to life. Moreover, to be working with NBC again is such a reward in itself, as my bonds and relationships there are deep."
