Mortal Kombat characters back from the dead! With Kitana just announced on the heels of Kung Lao, will the game bring in more of the core roster of kombatants?

Hope is fading for fans' wish lists in Mortal Kombat characters; Kitana is the newest ninja confirmed in the roster, which isn't a surprise considering Shao Khan's protégé is a favorite, solid player in the series. The Outworld princess previewed in a gameplay trailer alongside Kung Lao, wielding her revamped, bladed fans.

The new trailer also confirmed Goro will be part of the Mortal Kombat X lineup, but available only for players who preorder. The new game has been unveiling a character a month, and is expected to have a few more up its sleeves before the April 14 release date (UK IGN).

The trailer offered the staple of fare of gameplay, with Kitana the newest character to showcase. There are a couple of Easter Eggs to scour for rumor-mongers, though, including a new stage supposedly belonging to Fujin.

One of the anticipated features of Mortal Kombat X is its online element. Online multiplayer gameplay is a staple of fighting games nowadays, with a rival in the genre (Street Fighter V) drumming up hype for its release. Single-player games like GTA V have also adopted online multiplayer modes, expanding and ensuring repeat gameplay.

Players can join any of five online factions after the Mortal Kombat X release date: Lotus, Lin Kuei, Brotherhood of Shadows, Black Dragon, and Special Forces. The game still has plenty of details kept till the launch, but at least these are fed gradually.

Some of the Mortal Kombat X characters are also featured in limited-run graphic novels, just released. The comic is currently on its third issue, with focus on characters Hanzo and Scorpion, with a tease for Raiden in the next issue. Mortal Kombat X is the tenth installment in the series, which started in the Arcades, the Nintendo Super NES and Sega Genesis consoles.
