How ToTrain Your Dragon 3 Ending

The "How to Train Your Dragon 3" ending will close the trilogy; director Dean DeBlois previously confirmed there won't be a part 4.

Director Dean DeBlois said the "How to Train Your Dragon 3" ending immediately ties up where the adapted novel starts, with Hiccup reminiscing the days when dragons walked with humans. Though the director hardly revealed any spoilers, he did confirm in a previous interview that part 3 would be the last in the series.

DeBlois is reprising his role as writer and director, with the "How to Train Your Dragon 3" release date set for June 29, 2018. Part three is still three years off, but it's speculated the story will wrap up the relationship between protagonists Hiccup and Toothless.

The opening lines of the novel hint of the story's ending in a spoiler of sorts, with Hiccup recounting his youth, when dragons lived side-by-side with humans. DeBlois commented that part 3 will be the same coming-of-age wrap up Toy Story fans were forced to accept in "Toy Story 3," though.

"Both he and Toothless are now chiefs of their respective tribes, and it's a dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind, and an eventual outcome where Hiccup is able to stand on his own," DeBlois said in an interview with Collider.

"We're gonna take the story to where the books begin, which is Hiccup as an adult reflecting back on a time where there were dragons, suggesting that the dragons will in some way go away. Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story."

DeBlois also hinted the audience hasn't seen the last of Drago (voiced by Djimon Hounsou), who would be rounded out as a character come part 3.

"You have to wait until the third film to actually see where Drago's character goes. He's a lot more complex than he's presented in this second installment."

Though the "How to Train Your Dragon 3" ending is a rough giveaway, DeBlois said he's only finished sixty pages of the screenplay, with plenty of material to flesh out (screenrant.com).
