Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter's wedding on Valentine's Day took everyone by surprise, except for the locals at Isle of Wight!
According to People Magazine's local source, the biggest surprise wedding this year didn't create much fanfare in the small town.
"Honestly people just aren't that bothered about it, so there's been no big 'talk of the town' or anything like that," the insider revealed, adding that the couple must have chosen the town for the wedding because of Hunter's connection to the Nicholson family.
The first Lord Mottistone, General Jack Seely, was the brother of the 36-year-old mother-to-be's great grandmother. Their family, the Nicholsons, used to own the manor before it was sold to the National Trust.
Hunter's connection to the "beautiful house" wasn't the only consideration for holding the wedding there.
"The manor is right opposite the church so it will be very private, which I'm sure was the intention," the source added.
Before the big day, "The Imitation Game" star took refuge at Royal Yacht Squadron according to the Isle Of Wight County Press. The exclusive club, which counts Queen Elizabeth II as a patron, was a 30-minute drive away from the St. Peter and St. Paul Church where the couple got married in.
Meanwhile, there were about 40 guests who attended Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter's wedding.
One of the Oscar-nominated actor's famous friends was spotted attending the "very English" nuptials last Saturday. "Thor" star Tom Hiddleston was seen walking with another wedding guest in the area.
The 38-year-old dad-to-be's "Sherlock" co-star Andrew Scott (who plays the sleuth detective's nemesis, Jim Moriarty) was also there.
Unfortunately, Dame Judi Dench wasn't able to attend the ceremony. The legendary actress reportedly knew Cumberbatch since he was "tiny."
