Good news for avid Gmail users who owns an iPhone or iPad as Google introduces its latest update, Gmail 4.0 for iOS.

Gmail's iOS app version 4.0 contains an update that encompasses a number of awe-inspiring new features designed to take advantage of iOS 8.

CNet noted that Gmail users who own an iPad or iPhone need to decide whether to use Apple's stock Mail app, or switch to Google's Gmail app. That said, with the Gmail 4.0 for iOS, chances are iPhone and iPad users will switch to Google's Gmail app.

One of the most significant additions to iOS 8 as far as its users are concerned is the inclusion of quick actions on notifications. According to CioToday, when users get a new message, they can opt to either reply to it or simply archive it directly from the device's notifications at the top of the screen, alternatively this can be done from the lock screen too.

Google's original Gmail app has generally been a trade-off citing its lack of some of the nicer iOS integrations. That said, the search giant is working to change that with its latest update. According to iLounge, version 4.0 adds interactive notifications allowing users to swipe a notification in order to archive or reply right from the lock screen or banner. In addition, Sharing Extention support allows users to email photos and documents from other apps directly through the Gmail app. In order to facilitate easy reverse, the attachment viewer has also been updated.

Now users can open attachments from Gmail into other 3rd-party iOS apps.

How to see an attachment?

Simply tap on any attachment in a message. Users will see an option to open the file in another app via a share sheet. Likewise, Gmail too appears in the share sheet on other apps. Many of Gmail's new features have already been adopted by some well-known email clients such as Apple's Mail app.

Better Contacts

This week, the search engine giant released a preview of the new Google Contacts that makes keeping track of users' friends and colleague a piece of cake.

According to CNet, the Gmail app now allows users to act on messages directly by eliminating the need to take the extra step of opening the app for adding a new mail to archive or to reply.
