On Friday, June 5, India's leading smartphone maker Micromax launched its first LTE-enabled handset, with a free 4G SIM from Airtel.

Popular Indian phone manufacturer, Micromax unveiled its first 4G-enabled smartphone, the Canvas Knight 2 at Rs 16,299 (about $245), nearly a year after launching Canvas Knight.

Yu Yureka was a 4G phone but it is considered as a separate brand, thus Canvas Knight 2 is Micromax's first 4G enabled smartphone.

Sporting a premium glass and metal build, Canvas Knight 2 has a 5-inch HD (1280x720p) AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The smartphone is powered by a 64-bit 1.5GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor coupled with 2GB RAM.

The smartphone comes with 16GB of in-built storage. Canvas Knight 2 features a microSD card slot that offer support to cards up to 32GB capacity, Time of India noted.

"With the launch of our new device Canvas Knight 2, the first in the 4G range, we are looking at driving the next wave of internet evolution in the country," chief executive officer, Micromax Informatics, Vineet Taneja said.

He further added that "over the next few months, we are all set to launch a series of 4G LTE enabled devices across a range of price points each addressing unique needs of the Indian consumer. Our popular series of Canvas Fire, Unite, Nitro will gradually move to 4G offerings. With a comprehensive portfolio of quality 4G LTE enabled devices, we are confident of propelling the next wave of mobile internet ecosystem in the country."

Canvas Knight 2 runs Android 5.0 Lollipop and features a wide range of preloaded apps such as CleanMaster and Swiftkey. The smartphone features a 13 mega pixel rear camera with Sony IMX214 CMOS sensor and LED flash, and a 5 megapixel front-facing camera.

Canvas Knight 2 features a 2260mAh battery with reported talk time of 7 hours 45 minutes and standby time of 335 hours.

The device also supports 3G and 2G networks besides 4G on both the slots, according to The Indian Express. Moreover, Micromax is promoting the Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo WM8998 audio on board the smartphone.
