Doctors fear that Lamar Odom's coma might have caused serious brain damage as Khloe Kardashian's ex reportedly had trouble recognizing family members and friends.

"Our sources tell us Lamar has made little progression in the last couple weeks. We're told he's only able to speak a word here and there, and at times he seems 'empty,'" said TMZ.

"The scariest part ... Lamar can't recognize longtime friends and even family members when they come to visit. We're told docs believe he's suffered significant brain damage."

Khloe Kardashian, meanwhile, said that they kept the coma news from Lamar Odom even as they told the former Los Angeles Lakers star that he suffered some brain injury.

Talking to Ellen DeGerenes on her talk show, as shared by Us Weekly, James Harden's girlfriend said, "We tell him that he had a brain injury, but we can't tell him how that brain injury was caused, because that will set him back."

"He never asks why he's here. He doesn't ask," Khloe Kardashian explained.. "He's really confused a lot - sometimes he knows who the president is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he's 26, and I say I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!"

Khloe Kardashian also revealed that the divorce proceedings were scuttled with Lamar Odom's coma.

"I'm there helping him and I love him and I've always loved him," she said. "And that will never change. And I just feel like it's a really insensitive thing to fast-forward a divorce."

The "KUWTK" star continued, "He's a fantastic person who deserves support and love and for someone to be by his side, and for me, I'm that to him. And thank God I have a fantastic family who loves me and loves him just as much. And they're so supportive and they're with me and I have a great boyfriend who's understanding."

Lamar Odom lapsed into a coma after he was found unconscious inside a Las Vegas brothel last month.
