The premiere of the third and supposedly final season of 'Squid Game' is just around the corner, scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 27, 2025. While creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has promised "an explosive finale," his words may have fallen short, and the photos from the set prove it.
As revealed by Netflix, the third season finds Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in a vulnerable state, having lost his best friend in the second season. He's devastated after being pushed to the limit by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), "who was hiding his identity to infiltrate the game.
Gi-hun remains convinced that he must take down the game's architects and everything surrounding them, while Front Man remains steadfast in his goal. As in previous seasons, "players make decisions that put them in increasingly dangerous situations and face increasingly cruel mechanisms," Netflix concludes.
Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-jun return to their roles as Gi-hun, the Front Man, and Detective Hwang Jun-ho, respectively. These are the only actors who have been part of the series since the first season.
Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yuri, Lee David, Roh Jae-won, are the survivors of the second season, who return in this installment of the most successful series among K-Dramas.
Judging by the photos released by the streaming platform, the third season of "Squid Game" is the most intense and complicated, with more weapons, action, and unexpected situations. This season was filmed immediately after the second.
According to Hwang, Gi-hun's final moral conflict after the failed rebellion attempt in the second season will reveal the origin of the Front Man and his connection to Nov-ho, the police brother.
The season also promises significant returns , such as the robot Cheol-su (linked to Young-hee), along with even more brutal games—including jump-rope challenges, hand-to-hand combat, and maze trials—that seek to dig into the rawest parts of human nature.
Is this really the final season?
Last year, Hwang seemed fed up and filled with hatred for everything related to 'Squid Game'. However, things seem to have changed, and he has confessed that he is exploring spin-offs centered on characters like Front Man, the Recruiter, and the masked guards, to reveal their origins and motivations.
In fact, he talked about a project set between seasons 1 and 2. Considering the success of that universe, it wouldn't be surprising if Netflix has already funded the project.
For now, here are the most striking photos from the third season, so the wait for the premiere doesn't seem so long.
