Director Shin Kyung Soo Reveals Why "Joseon Exorcist" is Different from Other Zombie-Themed Series

Moreover, the filmmaker, whose famous works include "Nokdu Flower," "Oh, The Mysterious," and the historical drama "The Roots of Throne," shared how they emerged with the idea of having evil spirits as the antagonist.

"For King Taejong's perspective, we wanted to question whether he was as comfortable as history remembers him or if he actually had doubts and fears. That's how we came up with the idea of evil spirits who control the mind."

Following the network's announcement that "Joseon Exorcist" is slated to debut sometime this year, the public can't help but compare it to the period horror thriller "Kingdom."

To recall, the hit series was also set under the Joseon dynasty starring Ju Ji Hoon as the Crown Prince Lee Chang and Bae Doona as the physician Seo-bi.

During the press conference, Shin Kyung Soo mentioned that the Netflix series served as the "brilliant point of reference" for their team.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that "The Kingdom" focuses on the plague caused by monstrous creatures while "Joseon Exorcist" revolves around "evil spirits and demons."

"Our drama features evil spirits and demons in various shapes and forms. I think that's what sets us apart from 'Kingdom.' We go beyond the physical aspect and into the psychological and religious aspects," the director explained based on the recent report.
