Disaster Film 'Emergency Declaration' Postpones its Release Due to Covid-19 Cases

Showbox company, the official distributor of "Emergency Declaration" announced on December 15 that due to the increasing cases of Covid-19, the movie's supposed premiere in January will be postponed.

According to their official statement "Covid-19 is spreading rapidly, and each sector is making efforts to strengthen quarantine protocols. Considering the difficulties of the current situation made us decide that the release of 'Emergency Declaration' has been temporarily postponed."

The film is already supposed to premiere in January and the team was in the process of preparing for promotions but due to the rapid increase of Covid cases in South Korea, Song Kang Ho and Lee Byung Hun's much-awaited movie will be rescheduled for release in 2022.

'Emergency Declaration' Synopsis and Cast

"Emergency Declaration" is a reality aviation disaster film that takes place over an airplane that declared an unconditional landing in the middle of an unprecedented disaster situation.

It is the first-ever aviation disaster film to be produced by Koreans. It is also composed of star-studded cast namely "Parasite" actor Song Kang Ho, "Squid Game" actor Lee Byung Hun, Jeon Do Yeon, "The Fiery Priest" star Kim Nam Gil, Im Siwan, Kim So Jin, and Park Hae Joon.

'Emergency Declaration' Invited to 74th Cannes Film Festival

Ahead of its long-awaited release, the cast were already invited at the recent 74th Cannes International Film Festival in July in non-competition category and received recognition worldwide. This recognition was the reason why the film was scheduled to premiere in January but unfortunately, viewers have to wait a little longer again about the new schedule of the movie's release.

Meanwhile, the production already released the trailer and some photo teasers of the movie. "Emergency Declaration" is written and directed by Han Jae Rim who also helmed "The King" (2017), "The Face Reader" (2013), "The Show Must Go On" (2007) and "Rules of Dating" (2005).

He also won Best Screenplay for the movie "The King" at the Daejong Film Awards in 2017 and bagged the Best Film and Best Director Awards in the same event ceremony in 2013.
