From primadonna in "The Penthouse," Kim So Yeon shows off her versatility as she transforms into a mountain goddess in "Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938."

The award winning actress returns to the small screen, joining Kim Bum and Lee Dong Wook in the highly anticipated sequel. 

After three years since the first season aired, viewers are looking forward to the lovely duo reprising their roles in historical fantasy K-drama. 

Interestingly, season 2 featured new faces, including Kim So Yeon. 

Kim So Yeon Joined 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938' Because of One Special Thing

During the "Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938" press conference, the actress spoke about reason for joining the series. 

Kim So Yeon graced the event along with "Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938" co-stars  Lee Dong Wook, Kim Bum, Ryu Kyung Soo, and director Kang Shin Hyo. 

At the media briefing, Kim So Yeon shared what prompted her to accept the offer and play the role of Ryu Hong Joo. 

As obtained by a news portal, the actress said that she "really wanted" to act in a fantasy series. 

To recall, Kim So Yeon's previous projects focused more on heavy acting, like "Secret Mother," "All About Eve," "IRIS," and the hit K-drama "The Penthouse: War in Life."

Although she gave justice to characters and delivered an amazing performance, Kim So Yeon wants to explore more genres, like fantasy. 

As for her new role, the actress described mountain goddess Ryu Hong Joo as a "sweet and charming" character.

"Because of her tremendous strength, she is the most powerful of the four mountain gods, so she is a person who shouts, 'I can't be friends with anyone stronger than me,'" she added. 

Kim So Yeon Reveals  Doing Action Scenes in 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938'

During the press conference, Kim So Yeon shares the preparation she did for her role in "Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938."

She mentioned going to action school and practicing her swordsmanship skills. 

"I practiced hard at action school before the drama, and I think I focused more on swordsmanship practice," she said, rising anticipation for her character. 

In the drama, her character plays one of the mountain deities, including Cheon Moo Young (Ryu Kyung Soo,) and Lee Yeon (Lee Dong Wook), who have known each other since they were little. 

However, things changed as the sequel focuses on 1938, as viewers will get to see a different Lee Yeon, Cheon Moo Young, and Ryu Hong Joo. 

'Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938' Release Date and Where to Watch

The second season is scheduled to premiere on May 6 and will be the newest K-drama to air every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m. KST. 

"Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938" will have a total of 12 episodes, which will air on tvN.
