‘The Childe’ Director Gets Honest About Kim Seon Ho’s Casting
"The Childe" director and screenwriter Park Hoon Jung talked about the upcoming movie and why he chose Kim Seon Ho to play one of the main characters.
On May 22, the cast and director of the soon-to-be released film gathered to answer questions from the media. Joining director Park Hoon Jung gracing "The Childe" press conference are Kim Seon Ho, Kim Kang Woo, Go Ah Ra, and rookie actor Kang Tae Joo.
In the forthcoming film, the Hallyu star showcased a never-before-seen role for his big screen debut.
At the media briefing, ahead of the much-awaited premiere, the director lauded Kim Seon Ho for his amazing performance, noting how perfect he is for the role.
'The Childe' Director Says Kim Seon Ho is the 'Most Suitable' for the Role
During "The Childe" press conference at the Lotte Cinema Konkuk University, director Park Hoon Jung revealed the reason for casting Kim Seon Ho to play the villain character.
As obtained by a media outlet, he told the press that he insisted on having the actor onboard for the action drama despite the controversy that he was facing at the time.
The filmmaker, who established himself as one of the top-notch directors and the person behind "The Witch" 1 and 2, "New World," and "Night of Paradise," shared that one thing he prioritizes about the movie is the cast lineup. For him, the crucial part of starting a movie is selecting an actor "who can best match the character," and for him, it's none other than Kim Seon Ho.
"In the process of writing a scenario, creating a character, and then casting it, I'm just unconditionally trying to pick the actor that I think fits the role," he said.
In the upcoming movie, Kim Seon Ho takes on the role of Gwi Gong Ya, the antagonist in "The Childe" and a mysterious man who will turn Marco's life (Kang tae Joo) a living hell.

"The Childe" depicts the story of a Filipino-Korean amateur boxer named Marco, who went to his father's homeland to look for him.
However, in the process of finding his estranged dad, he bumps into Gwi Gong Ya.

On the other hand, Park Hoon Jung also dishes on his honest thoughts about Kim Seon Ho and the controversy that almost tainted his career. He confessed that it would be a lie when he said that he "wasn't worried" about the actor's scandal.
"But there was no alternative. And now, I think I did well in choosing Kim Seon Ho until the end," he pointed out, noting that there would be no other actor to play the role except for the "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" star.
In the wake of the news regarding Kim Seon Ho's debut movie, news broke regarding the accusation against the actor. Thankfully, he was able to clear his name and slowly return to showbiz.
Now, Kim Seon Ho is set to welcome fans with his new movie "The Childe," which will air on June 21.
