Replacing 'Tale of the Nine Tailed' Season 2's Female Lead A Smart Move?

In 2020, tvN released the fantasy-romance series "Tale of the Nine Tailed," which starred Lee Dong Wook, Kim Bum, and Jo Bo Ah. With its interesting plot, viewers enjoyed the drama, prompting the production to release season 2.

However, some of the original cast had a conflict in schedules during the allotted filming time. Unfortunately, Jo Bo Ah wasn't able to make it to the second installment, making the production look for new actors to join the cast.

Lee Dong Wook and Kim Bum reprised their roles in the new season. In May 2022, the drama's production confirmed that "The Penthouse" actress Kim So Yeon would officially participate in the project.

Despite the conflicting opinions before its broadcast, viewers have observed that the decision to replace the female lead in "Tale of the Nine Tailed" season 2 was a genius move.

Some questioned the need for a change, fearing it would affect the rapport of the cast, while others welcomed the opportunity for a new perspective.

Jo Bo Ah's performance in "Tale of the Nine Tailed" season 1 fell short for some as she was criticized for her limited range of expressions.

Meanwhile, Kim So Yeon, a top-notch actress, proved her power and stole the spotlight. She currently plays Ryu Hong Joo, a character who breathed new life into the series.

Since her character's story traveled back to the historical backdrop of 1938, the female protagonist's presence brought a refreshing twist that blended well with the continuity of the drama's plot.

In addition, her enchanting chemistry with Lee Dong Wook is being enjoyed by the audience. The duo's interesting relationship fascinates the viewers and keeps them immersed in the drama.

Furthermore, after Kim So Yeon joined the cast, "Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938" started to record high viewership ratings. In particular, season 2 debuted with a 6.5 percent rating while season 1's pilot episode ended with a 5.8 percent rating.

Now that the fantasy series is in its fourth week on primetime, the drama is consistent in maintaining a stable rating.
