Ji Chang Wook & Jeon Jong Seo To Lead 'Empress Woo'

On July 12, TVING's original series "Empress Woo" announced its casing lineup.

The series is a historical work that follows the life of the powerful Woo Hee, the queen of Goguryeo, as she becomes the main target of five large tribes who come after power and the throne.

Jeon Jong Seo, who showed off her immersive acting through "Money Heist," takes on the titular role. She's a queen who possesses great beauty and loyalty to her husband, Go Nam Mu.

The king is played by Ji Chang Wook. He has a brilliant enough mind to lead a country and defeat thousands of soldiers of the Han Dynasty.

King Go Nam Mu is a powerful ruler who has dignity and benevolence. However, when he dies, the palace immediately faces desperate crises.

With this, Empress Woo Hee is set to keepsafe the throne and the palace safe from the people who want to seize their bloodline for power.

Kim Mu Yeol, Park Ji Hwan, More Complete Lineup

Besides the two lead stars, a bunch of supporting actors join the cast to complete the drama lineup.

"Juvenile Justice" actor Kim Mu Yeol bags the role of Eul Pa So, the king's right hand man and the prime minister of Goguryeo. He's an indigent who climbed his way to the top.

With his loyalty to the king, he is assigned to look over the country's state affairs. However, he has an unresolved desire in his heart, making his character more intriguing.

Jung Yu Mi joins as Woo Soon, the queen's older sister. Like Empress Woo Hee, she is blessed with fair skin and unrivaled beauty.

Unbeknownst to many, Woo Soon's heart is filled with resentment after losing the chance of being a queen. She then enters the palace as a handmaiden in hopes to change her fate.

"Tomorrow" star Lee Soo Hyuk plays Go Bal Ki, one of the most eligible princes in Goguryeo. His presence stirs havoc in the series as he becomes a candidate for succession to the throne.

In addition, his vicious temper and greed that were suppressed by fear of Go Nam Mu threaten the palace's safety. Lastly, Park Ji Hwan of "Our Blues" portrays Moo Gol, a fearless warrior who protects the king through war.

The series boasts a talented cast, intensifying the public's excitement for the work; a historical series with a promising narrative.

"Empress Woo" begins filming in the second half of the year, and it will be released in early 2024 on TVING.
