Jeon Jong Seo's newest Netflix film "Ballerina" received great reception from fans around the world just days after its initial release.

With its twisted and dark theme, many viewers speculate that the work was created to diss the biggest and most controversial Burning Sun scandal.

'Ballerina' Director Reveals Main Purpose of New Netflix Film

Days after the release of the action noir film "Ballerina," the director of the Netflix movie broke his silence about the alleged diss attack on the Burning Sun scandal.

Also known as the Burning Sun gate, the controversy broke in 2019 after big celebrities and K-Pop stars were exposed for sex trafficking, drugs and distributions of unconsented sex videos of various women.

"Ballerina," starring Jeon Jong Seo and Kim Ji Hun, was speculated to be an ode to the 2019 scandal as it depicts the revenge plot of a bodyguard who hunts down the abuser and murderer of her deceased best friend.

On October 11, days after its premiere, the director of the film reached out about his new feature film. He first expressed his gratitude to the viewers who supported his work.

Lee Chung Hyun also acknowledged the polarized reviews of the audiences, saying that he "expected" it before the work was even released.

"The team discussed possible issues before the premiere and we understand all the feedback," he said. "It honestly delighted me to see many viewers show their interest in the work despite its dark and sensitive theme."

Regarding the Burning Sun scandal, Lee Chung Hyun stated that he didn't only focus on the 2019 controversy alone. He said, "I thought of many cases when writing the scenario as such cases aren't limited to South Korea. It also happens in other countries."

The director also shared that revenge comes in many forms but the ultimate revenge on sex crimes and exploitation of women is justice.

"I have two younger sisters," Lee Chung Hyun added. "It has always influenced me in many ways, in life and even in filmmaking."

Lastly, he promised to constantly improve his skills to return with greater work in the future. Lee Chung Hyun's most note-worthy films also include "The Call."

Jeon Jong Seo's 'Ballerina' Tops Netflix's Global Charts

Jeon Jong Seo's comeback film "Ballerina" was well-received by the public, thanks to its great portrayal of betrayal, sex crimes and the reality of its victims.

"For me, the film opened an opportunity to show a different side of me," the actress said. "It's an emotional work that I poured all my love into."

"Ballerina" topped the Netflix Global Charts in more than 62 countries including the Philippines, Japan, Chile, Brazil and more in just three days of its release.

The director, Lee Chung Hyun, revealed that he didn't expect the film to rank so high in the international charts. He said, "It's a relief. I'm very grateful to everyone who supported the work."
