Apple TV+’s ‘Dr Brain 2’ Suspends Production Plan as Lee Sun Kyun Deals With Drug Controversy

Lee Sun Kyun is facing a downturn in his acting career after his upcoming K-drama "Dr. Brain" season 2 halts its production.

Initially released in November 2021, the webtoon-based series penned and written by Kim Jee Woon of "Cobweb" depicts the story of a brain scientist named Go Se Won, played by Lee Sun Kyun, who helped a deceased relative by looking into the dead's brain.

Interestingly, the series got favorable reviews and positive responses from viewers since it was also the first Korean original content produced by Apple TV+.

As fans look forward to the release of "Dr. Brain" season 2, but officials have noted that the upcoming K-drama has been suspended due to various of reasons.

Will 'Dr. Brain' Season 2 Pushes Through Despite Lee Sun Kyun's Drug Investigation?

In a report cited by a local news portal, officials have suspended the plan to push through with the release of "Dr. Brain," season 2.

Although there is speculation that Lee Sun Kyun's issue has affected the continuation of the series, the production teams are dealing with various aspects that played a major role in why the process was halted during the script-writing stage.

"The US and Korean production teams had been exchanging scripts, writing and revising them many times, but couldn't agree on a satisfying result. In the end, the production is suspended."

In addition to this, the streaming giant Apple TV+ "is not very active in producing original Korean content.

Lee Sun Kyun's Ordeal: From Drug Allegations to Stepping Down in 'No Way Out'

The 48-year-old actor is among the recent celebrities who are facing allegations regarding illegal drug use.

After a series of initial investigations, Lee Sun Kyun was booked on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.

During the initial investigation and after being summarized by authorities, the actor made a brief statement regarding his case.

"I'm sorry for causing concerns", he said, adding that he "will faithfully cooperate with the investigation."

Following this, Lee Sun Kyun announced his departure from the upcoming K-drama "No Way Out."

Selected as one of the main characters, he is set to play the role of police officer Baek Joong Sik but has decided to step down due to the ongoing investigation.

Due to this, the role is offered to fellow celebrity Jo Jin Woong, who is reviewing the offer to play the lead role.

As for the production, the team is adjusting the schedule to fit the new filming dates and will have to postpone filming for around two weeks to prepare for the changes.
