K-drama Stars Who Played Daughter, Son of Nation’s Mother Kim Hae Sook

Whether it's romance, comedy, melodrama, or even fantasy, Kim Hae Sook never fails to amaze viewers with her compelling acting in K-dramas. With this, the beloved actress gained the title "nation's mother" because of her slew of series in which she played the same role.

In a previous interview, the veteran actress said that she looked forward to representing various types of mothers, which she certainly did.

"My wish is to play all the different mothers that exist in the world."

From being the humble and dotting grandmother of Seo Dal Mi (Bae Suzy) in "Start-Up" to being the legendary Gil Joong Gan in "Strong Girl Namsoon," here's a look back at Kim Hae Sook's K-drama roles where she plays the mother or grandmother of the lead stars.

'Hospital Playlist'

Playing the role of Jung Ro Sa, she is the mother of Dr. Ahn Jung Won (Yoo Yeon Seok) and the wife of the late Chairman Ahn Byung Woo. In the medical K-drama, she wants her son to marry someone instead of being a priest.

Although Jung Ro Sa wants her son to have his own family, she still supports Ahn Jung Won in whatever plans he has in life.

'Start-Up'

As mentioned, viewers witnessed Kim Hae Sook's portrayal of Seo Dal Mi's grandmother Choi Won Deok in the hit K-drama "Start-Up."

Viewers were also delighted to see her interaction with Han Ji Pyung (Kim Seon Ho). This is also where the actor gained the moniker "K-drama good boy" because Choi Won Deok would often call Ji Pyung "good boy."

'Under the Queen's Umbrella'

In the TVN historical K-drama, viewers witnessed the other side of Kim Hae Sook's portrayal of the mother role in "Under the Queen's Umbrella."

Taking on the villain role, she played the character of Queen Dowager Cho, King Lee Ho's mother and Queen Im Hwa Ryong's mother-in-law.

Viewers saw the intense battle between two mothers as Queen Im Hwa Ryong and Queen Dowager Cho fought to maintain the royal crown.

Joining Kim Hae Sook, "Under the Queen's Umbrella" stars Kim Hye Soo as Queen Im Hwa Ryong, Choi Won Young as the King, and Moon Sang Min as Grand Prince Sung Nam.

'Our Season'

Kim Hae Sook, from K-dramas, is also active in films as she maintains her position as the nation's mother.

Slated to premiere on December 8, the upcoming movie "Our Season" stars the veteran actress Park Bok Ja, who is the mother of Bang Jin Joo, played by Shin Min Ah.

According to the actress, "Our Season" is special for her because it is different from her previous projects.

"I have played many mothers, but this is the first time I have played the character of a mother who takes a three-day vacation from the underworld and heads to this world to meet her daughter," she said, as obtained by a news portal.

Kim Hae Sook also added that while filming the movie, she thought of her own mother, who is in heaven right now.
