Kim Hyun Joo dished on her reasons for appearing in Yeon Sang Ho's newest masterpiece "The Bequeathed" in an interview with Netflix.

The Hallyu superstar also clarified the misconceptions regarding the occult work, shedding light to fans' confusion.

Kim Hyun Joo Shares Reasons For Choosing 'The Bequeathed'

In a brief interview with Netflix, Kim Hyun Joo dished out her thoughts on her recently released series "The Bequeathed."

In the show, the actress plays the role of a woman who inherits an ominous cemetery from an unknown relative, which sends her in a series of murderous situations.

"The Bequeathed" is her third project with director Yeon Sang Ho whom she worked with in her previous productions "Hellbound" and "Jung_E."

Kim Hyun Joo accepted the challenge of an occult genre after receiving encouragement from Yeon Sang Ho. She said, "It's a high quality work. I saw no reason to do the project."

She also took the time to clarify about the work's theme after viewers confused the ending with the subject of incest. In the series, Kim Hyun Joo's character reunited with her step-brother, played by Ryu Kyung Soo.

"The show isn't about romance. If it were a story about that, I wouldn't have ignored it," Kim Hyun Soo said. "I wouldn't have done it if I didn't like the character and the premise."

The actress concluded by highlighting the euphemisms hidden in the series, and the dramatic elements she added to her character.

Kim Hyun Joo Shares Regrets About 'The Bequeathed'

Since she only starred in romance and other conventional genres, taking on the occult horror work made Kim Hyun Joo worried about its general reception.

Thankfully, the drama was well-received by the viewers, and it even topped the Netflix global charts in more than 20 countries including South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and more.

Kim Hyun Joo let fans in on a secret to showcase her gratitude. She shared that it was her first time swearing a lot for a project.

"Since I'm an actress, I watch what comes out of my mouth," she reasoned. "That's why I practiced delivering swear words to avoid being awkward in front of the camera."

Sadly, some of the scenes were edited out. Kim Hyun Joo commented, "It's a shame. I put a lot of effort into it."
