Bad news for PC gamers and Oculus Rift fans as not only did John Carmack said that the reason he left id Software was because of a rift between Oculus VR and ZeniMax but the rift between them probably means that "Doom 4" and "Wolfenstein: The New Order" won't support the Oculus Rift at all!

According to an interview with USA Today, John Carmack revealed the reason why he left id Software, the studio he co-founded in 1991 was because parent company ZeniMax Media wasn't ready to support Oculus Rift.

John Carmack said things could have worked out differently should Zenimax and Oculus VR had reached a deal.

"Wolfenstein: The New Order" and eventually "Doom 4" with support for the Oculus Rift would have been "a huge win," said Carmack who suggested the idea back when he was full time with id.

"It seemed like a sensible plan for me. I would have been content probably staying there working with the people and technology that I know and the work we were doing".

"But they couldn't come together on that which made me really sad. It was just unfortunate, when it became clear that I wasn't going to have the opportunity to do any work on VR while at id software, I decided to not renew my contract."

"I really do think VR is now one of the most exciting things that can be done in this whole sector of consumer electronic entertainment stuff," he said. "I've seen this when we transitioned from 2D games to 3D games and everybody has seen the mobile transition, right now in the last five years. After you have been around for a while, you can notice some of the trends. It really feels like VR has the possibility to be something really huge."

John Carmack is the now chief technical officer at Oculus VR and he is now working to provide VR technology to gamers worldwide. Which in a previous report reveals that the Oculus Rift will be available at a cheap price.
