Sherlock Holmes Season 4 Spoilers: Women To Add Flavor To The Detective’s Life, Says Producer Steven Moffat! Benedict Cumberbatch Speaks Up About Wearing The Detective’s Hat Again In 2016!

It was announced weeks ago that Sherlock Holmes Season 4 will not be back in the tube until 2016 to the dismay of eager fans, but it did not stop executive producer Steven Moffatt to drop a few bombs about possible incarnations and twists that can lead to interesting plot lines in the future.

One of this is the emerging importance of women roles in the detective's life. Though famed author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's story did not actually dwell on Sherlock Holmes' love life, Moffat is decided to add that flavour to make the next season interesting.

Moffat revealed in a TV Guide interview that Molly will have an increased role next season.

"I think she's become quite an important part of the show. One of the difficulties in adapting Sherlock Holmes... [is that] there are no women in Sherlock Holmes, the original stories. You really don't have the female perspective on them. And they're slightly flat when they turn up. And yet, every time we bring a woman into Sherlock, it works hugely well," he explained.

When talking about female companions, we cannot ignore Mrs Hudson's genuine concern for Cumberbatch's character, and that may be expounded in the season 4 of the BBC series.

"A female perspective on that friendship and on that man is incredibly telling, incredibly illuminating. So we've expanded hugely the part of Mrs Hudson because she didn't speak in the original. And we brought Molly in," Moffat continued.

Then why not bring back Irene Adler, Holmes' famous love interest and on-off nemesis?

Steven Moffat disclosed to TVLine that it is "not impossible [that Adler returns], because she's still alive and out there," but claims to be "wary" to push her in the storyline because there are still "many stories to tell."

There shouldn't be any worry though about the Sherlock Holmes franchise's future because Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, Holmes and Watson respectively, have committed to doing more seasons under their now soon-to-be classic role.

The "12 Years a Slave" actor made it explicitly clear at TCA that Sherlock Holmes is here to stay:

"I'm going to keep going with it. I play enough other mad people to vary the palate of what I'm scrabbling around in my head as a storyteller...I love [playing Sherlock]. I find it very invigorating."
