Avatar 2 Movie Release Date: It might be years away before fans can get a glimpse on what Avatar 2 has to offer, but director James Cameron (Titanic, Terminator) makes sure to update his film's avid fans about the latest developments. Seven years after the first film, it would be interesting to see how fans will receive the sequel of only the highest-grossing film of all time ($2,782,275).

The next installment of this blockbuster film will hit the big screen in December of 2016. The production is set to begin this fall and will be the film's course for the upcoming years as the team plans to shoot consequently for the third and fourth film.

According to James Cameron, the pre-production team is focusing on software development and character design.

"We're still in the early stages. Right now we're developing the software. I'm writing the scripts. We're designing all the creatures and characters and the settings, and so on. So I'm not actually directing yet, but I'm doing all the other creative processes that lead up to that."

The director stated that the second and third films would complete a three-film storyline that he had visualized and the fourth one will be a prequel to the first film. Asked on where the story would revolve to and if fans will get to see new characters, Cameron said:

"That's the great thing about 'Avatar. It's such a rich world, I can explore any theme or any idea that I want. Once you've got the characters that an audience loves, it's great to surprise them and make changes and turns that they don't expect. And you don't have to spend so much of the movie setting up all that stuff because the audience will remember from the previous film."

As per the film's possible cast, it is rumored that Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, Expendables) may team-up with the director who defined him as an action star. According to slashfilm.com, Schwarzenegger will be the villain and will play the role of a human general. If this happens, he will be joining the film's newest recruits in Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds), Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), and Shane Salerno (Savages).

Cameron also discussed some technical aspect of the film. He said they are planning to use the same technology that the Hobbit franchise is currently using and if this comes to fruition, the films will truly be a sight to behold.

"We're looking at high frame rate. I'm studying that. I haven't made a final decision yet, whether the entire film will be made at a high frame rate or only parts of it. You know we'll be shooting at a native resolution of probably 4K and so there should be a lot of true 4K theaters by then as well."

"It's going very well. I think it's going to be spectacular. The first film took almost four years to make. We expect to be able to accelerate the process quite a bit, because we've improved a lot of the software and the computer graphics tools, and we've been working very closely with Weta Digital down here in New Zealand developing a whole new suite of tools to speed up the process."
