Apple iWatch concept design rumors have erupted online, since media reports highlighted layoffs of Nike's Fuelband employees. Concept designs for the Apple iWatch have gained strength with Nike’s disinterest in pursuing tracking devices.

One emerging concept design for Apple iWatch signals a collaboration between Nike and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) to finally begin production of the the highly anticipated iWatch. The iWatch concept design is a precursor to the long awaited iWatch, announced as a future release since the first prototype smart watches were unveiled at the MWC 2013.

Apple has since filed patents and trademark documents in Japan and a.number of other countries in preparation for an iwatch launch in line with Samsung and Sony’s smart watches. However, these plans were scrapped after Apple found itself scurrying to release the iPhone 6 right after the 6-month old nascent iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.

Rumors also suggest that the iWatch concept will be a combination of the fuelband and Apple iOS. In fact Tim Cook is an avid Fuelband wearer and enthusiast and he's also one of Nike's Board of Directors.

The Cupertino, Calif. company hinted at a release of an iWatch along with the iPhone 6 launch ahead of the holiday shopping season.

The most credible concept Apple iWatch concept design was the creation of a German student Thomas Bogner who fell in love with the Fuelband but wanted more juice from it - something he envisioned would be similar to the Apple iWatch concept.

The concept device, in essence was a Nike+ Fuelband with more features: "This concept was clearly inspired due [to] the experience with the Nike+ Fuelband — I just fell in love with its flawless form factor," Bogner was quoted as saying.

He told Mashable."What I was missing in all those iWatch mockups to date, they never felt 'Apple-like.' For me, personally, the iPod click wheel was one of the most stunning implementations of UI in a consumer device; that's probably the reason why [I] wanted the Interface to 'rotate' around a wrist."

Industry watchers are expecting a surprise unveiling of the iWatch at a major event on April 22, when Apple honors Earth Day at its retail stores.
