‘Thor 3’ Cast Hero Chris Hemsworth Lands Role In ‘Lethal Weapon’ Reboot; The ‘Avengers’ Star To Play The Role Of Mel Gibson’s Son?

"Thor 3" cast Chris Hemsworth just landed a role in the "Lethal Weapon" reboot playing Mel Gibson's son.The new "Lethal Weapon" will still be produced by Joel Silver who also produced the original 1987 film along with Richard Donner. The buddy cop movie was a blockbuster hit that it spawned four more sequels.

According to comicbook.com, the plot for the new "Lethal Weapon" isn't revealed yet and it could either be a reboot or will begin right where the last film ended with "Thor 3" cast Chris Hemsworth possibly taking on the role of Mel Gibson's character Martin Riggs.

The Tracking Board  reported that the "Lethal Weapon" reboot is currently being produced under the working title "Lionhunters" but that could change anytime like in the case of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" which was later changed to "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" even if it was post-production already.

"Iron Man 3" director Shane Black might also be tapped to contribute as he penned the first Lethal Weapon, Tracking Board added.

The new film will reportedly be directed by Justin Li, who also helmed "Fast & Furious 6," and although "Thor 3" cast Chris Hemsworth is mum on the rumors, the director took to Twitter to dismiss the report that he's included in production.

"Justin Lin ‏@trailingjohnson Just got back to the states and saw that I'm directing Lethal Weapon and Fast7. Did I just land in an alternate universe?" he wrote.

The tentative script, Collider reported, revolves around the dream of the son of an older cop (who could be Martin Riggs) to join the police force." The website claims that the plot is loose enough to connect it with the "Lethal Weapon" franchise which means Mel Gibson and Danny Glover (Rober Murtaugh) can also appear in cameos or supporting roles.
