Donald Sterling's comments has taken a life of its own as Magic Johnson sat down with Cooper to respond to the former team owner's comments, mainly saying that "he feels sorry" for the bereaved executive.

On Monday, LA Clipper's former owner publicly spoke about the Donald Sterling comments issue for the first time with CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 where he also criticized Magic Johnson's HIV illness and questioned the former NBA player's reputation, particularly as an example to children.

But Magic Johnson made his own appearance on the same show to address Donald Sterling's comments.

"The problem is, he is living in the Stone Ages," Johnson told Anderson Cooper. "He can't make those comments about African-Americans or Latinos. He just can't do it."

Magic Johnson openly came out about his illness in 1991, which garnered mixed reactions from the public. This was the subject of Donald Sterling's most recent comments, which Johnson immediately responded to.

"Here's a man we would think would be educated," Johnson continued. "A man who is smart enough to build this type of wealth and own a team and has an incredible platform to change the world. And he's doing it in a negative way."

He went on to defend himself about his illness and explained his reasons for opening it up for public consumption.

"First of all, 22 years ago I announced I did have HIV, he added. "I came out like a man. I told the world. I didn't blame nobody else. I understood what I did was wrong. I announced that to the world. I hope I was able to help people and I think I did."

Magic Johnson has also admitted that he was upset by Donald Sterling's comments, but chose to take the high road and not hold any grudges. He did, however, react on Sterling's statements about how his former players "still love him".

"He is delusional. Not only the Clippers don't love him, the other players in the NBA don't love him," he said. "The players have rallied together. He can't buy his way out of this one. He has bought his way out of all the other situations. Can't do it this time."
