Floyd Mayweather Leaves Golden Boy Hours After Richard Schaefer’s Resignation! ‘The Money Team’ Refuses To Work With Promotions Company Without Former CEO?

Floyd Mayweather has left Golden Boy Promotions hours after former CEO Richard Schaefer announced his resignation from the company.

In a bizarre twist of events that shook up Oscar De La Hoya's brainchild in a span of less than 24 hours, the reigning pound-for-pound king let his decision be made public through Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe.

Floyd Mayweather, whose next fight is scheduled for September 13, says he will not work with Golden Boy Promotions without Richard Schaefer.

"We have a great working relationship with Richard Schaefer and that will never change," Ellerbe said in a separate interview with ESPN.com. "Richard is a good friend and a great businessman and an excellent promoter. Richard will have an impact in anything that he decides to do, a tremendous impact."

"He built that company from the ground up and did a phenomenal job," Ellerbe continued. "We've had a very close relationship for a number of years and worked hand-in-hand on a number of great fights."

Floyd Mayweather always had a harmonious working relationship with Schaefer, rightfully so since it was the former CEO and Swiss banker who was responsible for "Money's" major financial success in boxing.

In turn, Floyd Mayweather has openly declared that should Schaefer leave Golden Boy, the latter will "always have a home with Mayweather Promotions."

"We would love to work with Richard. He's a great guy, a great father. Richard knows the door is always open. Richard Schaefer knows he's family," Mayweather said in an interview with ESPN.com in May.

However, Leonard Ellerbe decided not to further speak about the matter regarding Schaefer's future involvements with Floyd Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions.

"Richard just put in the resignation and I'm not going to speak on what Richard might do next," Ellerbe added. "That is for Richard to say. But Richard will have a tremendous impact on whatever he decides to do and wherever he goes. We always welcome smart leaders, but I don't know what his future is."
