Each country has unique beauty standards; others might go for skinny frames with doll-like faces, while some may find voluptuous bodies and strong features attractive. With the influence of media and advertisements, you may have already noticed the mainstream concept of beauty in your country.

To help us discover the conventional definition of beauty from various nationalities, Esther Honig, a journalist, blogger, and freelancing reporter for KCUR, started a wonderful project called Before & After. To kickoff this experiment, Honig sent an un-retouched photo of herself  to 40 Photoshop experts across the globe asking them to edit her face in accordance with their idea of beauty. Thus, her note: "Make me beautiful."

Made possible by the platform Fiverr, Honig was able to connect with individuals from over 25 countries including The Philippines, Ukraine, Kenya, and Sri Lanka. The edited photos that she has collected so far were pretty amazing. Check these out:

From what you can notice, some countries (like The Philippines) have submitted two beautified versions of the photo, and Honig tells E! Online why: "Each photo editor draws from a palate of both their cultural influence and their personal aesthetic preferences. This is why two images from the same country may be nothing alike".

She also told HelloGiggles, "It immediately occurred to me that in this pool of workers, each individual likely had an aesthetic preference particular to their own culture,"

"If you sent, say, five of them the same image they were bound to alter it in drastically contrasting ways by influence of their cultural concept of beauty."

Lastly, The Before & After coordinator notes a thing or two about this experiment as she shares,  "Overall what I've learned from this project is this; Photoshop allows us to achieve our unobtainable standards of beauty, but when we compare those standards on a global scale, achieving the ideal remains all the more elusive."
