After defeating USA, Belgium advances to the quarterfinals against Argentina which will be on Saturday, 5th July 2014. It would be the 59th match of the FIFA World Cup 2014 and both teams won in the extra-time.

The two teams played 4 matches against each other before. Argentina won 3 and 1 for Belgium. In the total number of matched played, 14 goals were scored. Argentina scored 10 and Belgium 4.

Argentina has not won any major trophy since they lifted the Copa America in 1993. However, the team is not considered as one of the strongest teams since the tournament started given the presence of the team captain and playmaker Lionel Messi; it is predicted that he will still be Argentina's advantage on the quarterfinal match on Saturday since he rescued the team against Switzerland on the previous match.

Despite qualifying for the quarterfinals, Belgium failed to impress against supposedly the weaker teams. Scoring goals in previous matches against Algeria, Greece, and South Korea had been a struggle for the team. Mar Wilmots, the Belgium coach said that the previous match against was nerve-racking. "It was bad for my heart," he mentioned. However, he also said that they will be only concentrating on Argentina for the next round.

"People said we were not a good footballing team, but we created a chance after two minutes and must have had about 20 more. Tim Howard had a fantastic match. I think we saw a lot of football from Belgium tonight, a lot of movement." The Belgium coach added.

It is highly predicted that Argentina and Belgium will play out a 0-0 draw, and Argentina will win 5-4 on penalties.
