Firefox Rolls Out Browser Updates for Mobile & Desktop Versions; Firefox OS And Smartphones Coming Soon in Various Countries

Mozilla Firefox has rolled out browser updates for destktop and mobile, as Firefox OS for smartphones will be available soon in various countries.

Through release notes posted on the Mozilla website, the web browser developer presented at least seven features for Firefox browser update on desktop. These are the following:

  • Add the search field to the new tab page
  • Support of Prefer:Safe http header for parental control
  • mozilla::pkix as default certificate verifier
  • Block malware from downloaded files
  • Partial implementation of theOpenType MATH table(section 6.3.6) seedocumentation about mathematical fontsand theMathML Torture Testfor detail
  • audio/video .ogg and .pdf files handled by Firefox if no application specified (Windows only)
  • Upper Sorbian [hsb] locale added

Meanwhile, new features are also added for Firefox browser update when used on mobile devices:

  • Ability to re-order existing panels in browser homescreen
  • Added ability to refresh synced tabs on demand
  • Firefox Hub APIs
  • mozilla::pkix as default certificate verifier
  • Locales added: Assamese [as], Bengali [bn-IN], Gujarati [gu-IN], Hindi [hi-IN], Kannada [kn], Malayalam [ml], Marathi [mr], Oriya [or], Panjabi [pa-IN], Tamil [ta], Telugu [te]

According to the Venture Beat, the latest release notes for Firefox are more focused on the developer tools, as many of the features presented have something to do with how "developers can create web content, add-ons and apps."

Mozilla also deals with fixing browser issues, and the list of unresolved Firefox user issues are listed on the release notes posted on July 22. Issues such as the browser slowly shutting down that causes a "Firefox is already running" warning to appear (desktop) and the browser unable to start on Android L preview are just some of the ones remain unsolved. Mozilla users may view the complete changelog of Firefox browser at the Mozilla website.

Apart from the Firefox browser updates, Mozilla is reportedly busy venturing in creating a mobile operating system to compete with Google, Blackberry, Nokia and Apple in the OS market. The operating system named Firefox OS, is ready and on the go to be marketed in developing countries, such as Spain, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, GigJets.com reported.
