'Star Wars' Gets Three Comic Book Releases In 2015; Marvel Makes Solo Comic Books For Princess Leia & Darth Vader
"Stars Wars" will get three comic books releases early 2015 as Marvel is gearing up for three different stories that will revolve in the "galaxy far, far and away." Expect Darth Vader and Princess Leia will get their own comic books as well.
Marvel announced that "Star Wars" will release three hardcover comic books called "Star Wars," "Star Wars: Princess Leia," and "Star Wars: Darth Vader," According to The Hollywood Reporter, each comic book will have its own team of creators, editors and illustrators, and the stories will take place in between the stories of the original "Star Wars" movie and the "Empire Strikes Back."
The first series, "Star Wars," will be created by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday; "Star Wars: Princess Leia" will be coming from Mark Waid and Terry Dodson while "Star Wars: Darth Vader" will be worked on by Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca.
A transcript of interview to the three writers who will work on the three upcoming Marvel releases was published in the "Star Wars" website. While the interviews were done separately, the writers expressed their excitement on working in the projects.
Joshua Yueh of IGN provides a concise gist of each of the comic series, though:
[On 'Star Wars':]"As part of the Rebel Alliance, they will try and capitalize on their victory at the Battle of Yavin, but of course Darth Vader won't let that happen."
[On Star Wars: Darth Vader:] "With the Empire suffering a crushing defeat that resulted in the loss of the Death Star, Vader has a lot to make up for. He needs to restore his reputation as the most feared man in the galaxy, as well as prove to the Emperor that he's still got what it takes."
[On Star Wars: Princess Leia] "The story involved Leia stepping up to lead the Rebellion while also dealing with the loss of her home-world."
All "Star Wars" comic book releseas will be available to fans consecutively starting January 2015. While "Star Wars" and "Star Wars: Darth Vader" are already an ongoing comic series, the "Star Wars: Princess Leia" comic books will only be a five-part mini-series according to IGN.
