Casey Kasem Wife Sued By Her Former Lawyers; Brother Of Late Radio Star Speaks Up, Sides With Children Of ‘American Top 40’ Host
Casey Kasem's wife, Jean Kasem, is being sued by former lawyers who used to represent her in the dramatic legal battle involving the radio star's remains and children from his first marriage, said a report from CBS Los Angeles. The filing of the lawsuit against Casey Kasem's wife followed the release of a statement by the brother of the "American Top 40" host, who has sided with his 36-year-old niece Kerri and 40-year-old nephew Mike.
LA law firm Haney & Young LLP has slammed Casey Kasem's wife Jean with a breach-of-contract suit as the 60-year-old widow allegedly owes her former lawyers $50,500 in legal bills.
The lawsuit was filed by Haney & Young LLP last Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, who said they entered a contract with Jean on June 5. Their former client allegedly ignored subsequent bills.
According to City News Service, Jean has agreed to arbitration. Court documents secured by the outlet show the lawsuit was filed to make certain that arbitration is nonbinding.
According to a report from Toronto Star, Casey Kasem's children, led by Kerri, said their father was being kept away from them while he was sick with Parkinson's and dementia.
A court battle ensued and Kerri was given the chance to have doctors examine her father Casey. It was then discovered that he had been removed from a Santa Monica hospital by Jean and taken out of California.
Casey Kasem was 82 when he died last June 15 at a hospital in Gig Harbor, Washington.
According to People magazine, Kerri then sent a lawyer to Gaffney Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Tacoma, Washington, where Casey Kasem's body was confirmed by police to be missing.
Kerri, who had instructed the funeral home to keep her father's body in cold storage and not proceed with a cremation pending a complete autopsy, said her father's second wife Jean is responsible for the missing body.
A development reported by NY Daily News said Casey Kasem's body has been shipped to Montreal, which is allegedly the hometown of a man who is said to be the lover of Jean Kasem.
Mouner Casem, the brother of Casey, has also spoken up about the controversies surrounding his late brother's death. According to a Daily Mail report, Mouner said his brother's wife of 34 years is "pure evil" and said her stand to not reveal where Casey's body will be laid to rest is a "sick joke".
Mouner says: "It's a sick joke from a sick woman. It's a sick joke that Jean would say she lived in Jerusalem, Israel on the death certificate and it's a sick joke that she said his body is to be shipped to Montreal in Canada, a place Casey has never even been to".
