According to E! News, their source has confirmed that the actor is in the initial talks with the show's execs to star as one of True Detective season 2's lead roles.
And while the negotiations for the Wedding Crashers star is still in its preliminary stages, Vince Vaughn has become just the latest big-name star to be linked as a possible replacement for the big hole left by season 1's Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. Previous names that have surfaced in connection to the True Detective season 2 cast include Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Jessica Chastain.
Recently, more substantial rumors have emerged that Irish actor Colin Farrell and Friday Night Lights' Taylor Kitsch are close to signing on to appear on True Detective season 2. It's not surprising that so much speculation has arisen and such noteworthy actors are being dragged in the True Detective Season 2 cast rumors. The well-received first season earned both McConaughey and Harrelson Emmy Award nods for their performance as lead actors. The show itself is up for the Best Drama award.
Another name that has recently been attached to True Detective season 2 is Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss. The 32-year old actress is rumored to be a frontrunner for a lead part in season 2. According to The Wrap, the Moss would play "Ani Bezzerides, a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol."
In any case, HBO Chairman Richard Plepler and HBO President Michael Lombardo have stated that True Detective Season 2 casting choices will be announced very soon. They also said that they are very excited about the upcoming season's storyline. "The two scripts we already have -- I hate to jink it -- but they are more exciting than the first season," Lombardo says.
