Thanks to Lena Dunham, Taylor Swift is proud to deliberately sing in the name of feminism.

Recently, Swift confirmed that she didn't know much about the movement until she got extremely close with the star of the HBO hit series "Girls."

"As a teenager, I didn't understand that saying you're a feminist is just saying that you hope women and men will have equal rights and equal opportunities," said the "Shake it Off" singer while speaking to  The Guardian . "What it seemed to me, the way it was phrased in culture, society, was that you hate men.

After building this strong bond with Dunham, Swift finally realized that she has been practicing feminism all along.

"Becoming friends with Lena -- without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for -- has made me realize that I've been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so," Swift added when speaking to the publication.

It appears the Dunham has mutual feeling toward Swift. The writer went to Twitter to publicly praise the songstress.

"She's been my feminist role model for a long time," Dunham tweeted. "And I cannot f---ing wait for her VMA [MTV Video Music Awards] performance."

Dunham continued with writing that Swift understands the true meaning of feminism.

"Taylor recognizes that at its core it's not about radicalism or rage, but equality. Her willingness to own the term means much to many...When someone grows, changes and shows their vulnerability and evolution publicly... That's a gift they give to us that we should honor."
