"The Lego Movie 2" news reveal that the sequel has been already considered way before the first film came out. According to Cinema Blend, "This sequel, Lego Movie 2 was planned even before the first film was released, so sure was Warner Bros. of its success. As it turns out, they were right. The original Lego Movie was a massive critical and financial success, making The Lego Movie 2 an easy commitment."

Some begin to speculate that because of this revelation, the new flick will be a prequel instead of a sequel. No one knows for sure what "The Lego Movie 2" plot entails, but here is an exclusive The Hollywood Reporter interview with "The Lego Movie" directors, detailing the ideas they have for the 2nd instalment:

"Phil Lord: [It's] still in the stage where we're sitting around talking about things and trying to figure out how to craft a story.

Chris Miller: We have a lot of themes and some ideas that we like.

Lord: One of the problems we made for ourselves is the brand of the movie is originality. So it's really hard to sequelize that."

However, Phil Lord and Chis Miller will not be coming back to direct. Instead, they've hired animation co-director Chris McKay to helm the sequel.

Meanwhile, news of potential cast members are already sparking fans' interest. One of the most talked about cast addition is Spider-Man's cameo appearance along with Batman and Wonder Woman. Fans await official news regarding the said rumor.

Cast members from the first film are expected to reprise their roles according to some "The Lego Movie 2" rumors. In an interview with Metro, "The Lego Movie" star Chris Pratt shared his thoughts about returning for the sequel.

"I don't know anything. I hope I'm back. I loved working with Chris and Phil and I hope Emmett is crucial to the story," he said.

"It could be about a different character, it's not like other cartoons in that way. I hope that Emmett isn't disposable, he was such a great big part of that movie."

"The Lego Movie" was a hit among moviegoers when it debuted on the big screen earlier this year.
