With ABC giving full-season order for "Black-ish" just on its third episode, it proves that this newest TV series is a hit. TV by the Numbers reported that it now "ranked as the top 2 TV shows of the night in Adults 18-49", along with "Modern Family".
"Black-ish" received good reviews. From Metacritic, it earned the nod of the majority of critics as it received 77 metascore. TV Guide said it is "a truly modern family. The Hollywood Reporter shared that "Black-ish" is "one of the fall's strongest comedies". It said that it is "a sitcom that's both funny and about something".
The writer also pointed out: "More than anything else, however, 'Black-ish' has something to say about cultural identity and parenting and the changing world around us. Those are universal issues, and 'Black-ish' is a true bright spot in a bleak fall TV landscape."
The Daily Beast reported, "It arrived on air last week with a strong sense of itself, its sense of humor, and, perhaps most importantly, what it wanted to say. The last time a comedy debuted on network television that hit all those tenets was - yep - "Modern Family" back in 2009."
The Wrap shared, "Once you get past its pejorative and provocative title, ABC's new family comedy 'Black-ish' is extremely intelligent and funny." It added that it "has all of its sitcom basics covered. But what makes the show bold and necessary is that it dares to address what it means to be an African American in this country in broad and specific ways."
