Doctor Strange Movie Cast: 'Star Wars' Actor Ewan McGregor A Frontrunner For Lead Role In New Marvel Movie? Faces Strong Competition From 'Interstellar's' Matthew McConaughey And 'Dallas Buyers Club's

It's one of the most highly anticipated casting decisions in the movie world, especially now that Marvel and its superheroes are such hot property in Hollywood these days. And there are plenty of actors that are up for the part, some officially, and some campaigning quietly via social media and other such platforms. But right now, the hottest name added to the Doctor Strange movie cast is none other than the actor who played young Obi Wan Kenobi: Ewan McGregor.

According to the website Badass Digest, Ewan McGregor is in the radar of Marvel Studios to play the much coveted role of Doctor Strange.  According to the source of the website, Marvel is "looking at him,: and that the actor himself has already started doing research in preparation for the role.

All we know for sure is that the Doctor Strange movie will be directed by Scott Derrickson (who directed Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose). Doctor Strange is an ex neurosurgeon who also holds the key role of Sorcerer Supreme. Which means he is the earth's shield and protector against any supernatural threats. The character of Doctor Strange was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for Marvel more than 50 years ago, and he first debuted in Strange Tales No. 110

But there is no real confirmation yet on who will on board as part of the Doctor Strange movie cast. There are plenty of rumors though! In fact, several names have been attached to the role of Doctor Strange. They include actor/rock singer Jared Leto. According to a report by Variety, the Oscar award winning actor has been very open and persistent about playing the character. Another hot Hollywood actor linked to the role is Matthew McConaughey, who has had a string of great roles in recent time, from Christopher Nolan's  Interstellar, to  HBO's True Detective.
