Choi Sulli appeared at promotional events for the film "Fashion King," looking bright and well rested after taking a three-month break from public appearances.

At a recent promotional event for the film, her co-star actor Joo Won said he felt sorry for her but his remark had nothing to do with the way she looked in real life. Nor did his comment have anything to do with the reasons that she took a break from public life.

His comment concerned the way she dressed for scenes in the film. The wardrobe and makeup people worked hard to make her "ugly."

"There is a scene in the movie where Sulli has to look ugly," said Joo Won. "But since she is an outstanding beauty, she didn't look ugly even with the make up. So she puffed up her hair and put stuff on her face to ruin her beauty on purpose."

He was shocked at his co-star's transformation. When he first saw her transformed she reminded him of a downtrodden character in the drama "The Slave Hunters."

"I don't know if it was the power of makeup but Sulli, who has such a pretty face, looked so ugly. So I was shocked for a moment. But I didn't think I could ever see her like that again so I took a picture of her. I will think about whether or not I will reveal it,"

Joo Won did say that Sulli did a great job of acting.

"Sulli showed great passion for acting on set," he said. "It must've been hard trying to look ugly but she didn't care. As a colleague, I'm anticipating Sulli′s advancement in acting."

In "Fashion King," the f(x) singer plays a girl who ignores her looks so she can focus on her schoolwork.

"Like the role I played in the movie, I also don't care that much about my appearance when I am at home, so I didn't feel it was hard to play an ugly character," she said

In the film Joo Won plays a clueless high school student named Woo Ki Myung. In order to impress the prettiest and most fashionable girl in school, he starts taking fashion seriously. Once he does, he becomes the most fashionable fashionista in the school. The drama, based on a Naver webtoon, also stars Ahn Jae Hyun, Park Se Young and Kim Sung Oh.

The film's promotional events were Sulli's first public appearance in three months. She took a break from public appearances after being upset by malicious online comments The comments followed the news that she and Choiza of Dynamic Duo were dating.

"Fashion King" will be released on Nov. 6.
