The 24-year-old has been included in coach Joachim Low's 23-man squad despite never having even represented his country at youth level.

"We want to get to know him better," Low said. "Jonas is in good form for Cologne."

The group also includes Marco Reus and Sami Khedira again after injury, while Hoffenheim forward Kevin Volland receives his second call.

"Kevin's been with us before and he's one of the pillars of our under-21s, and, after some great performances for his club of late, he deserves this call-up," Low said.

"The returns of Marco Reus, Sami Khedira, Benedikt Howedes and Lars Bender will also do us good.

"Although they are still young, they are still some of our most experienced players."

Every member of Germany's World Cup-winning squad will meet in Berlin on Monday for the first showing of a film documentary of their success in Brazil.

They will also receive honors from Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel for their achievements before those players who are part of Low's latest squad but were not involved in the World Cup arrive on Tuesday to start preparations for Friday's clash with Gibraltar.

"We're going to take that game very seriously," Low said. "We know that we're clear favourites and that is the way we want to play it.

"We want a big win in front of our own fans and then it is always special to play the previous world champions and current European Championship holders Spain.

"They have dominated world football in recent years and it's going to be an even game.

"Both teams will be highly motivated and we're looking forward to being able to measure up to these outstanding footballers."
