Which smartphone is worth the purchase? We pit the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 against the HTC One Max to see which device is the better buy.

In terms of design and display, the HTC One Max is equipped with a 5.9 inches Super LCD3 display which renders a resolution of 1080x1920pixels and a pixel density of 373ppi. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has a finger print sensor. Its dimensions are 164.5×82.5×10.3 mm and weighs 217 grams.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 has a 6.3 inches SC-LCD screen that supports a HD resolution of 720x1280pixels and 233ppi. Its dimensions are 167.6×88×8 mm and weighs 199 grams.

For the hardware and OS, the HTC One Max comes with a quad core 1.7GHz Krait 300 processor, which is backed by a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon 600 chipset and an Adreno 320 GPU. It has 2GB of RAM with two variants of internal storage: 16 and 32GB which are expandable up to 64GB

The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is powered by a dual core 1.7Ghz Krait CPU and has an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset and an Adreno 305 GPU. It has a 1.5GB of RAM with 8 and 16GB of built in storage, also expandable up to 64GB.

Both devices run on the Android platform. The HTC model comes loaded with the 4.3 (Jelly Bean) version, while the Galaxy Mega runs on a previous version, 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), but can be upgraded into 4.4.2 (KitKat).

For battery and camera specs, the HTC One Max’s battery is non-removable, having a capacity of 3300mAh which should allow users to talk 25 hours on 3G. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 on the other hand, has 3200mAh battery, but it’s removable and it offers 10 hours of talk time on 3G.

The Samsung unit has a more advanced primary camera with 8MP lens, which records videos at 1080p@30fps. The features of this camera include 3264x2448pixels, autofocus, LED flash, touch focus, geo tagging, HDR, face and smile detection and panorama. The secondary camera on this device is 1.9MP.

The HTC unit offers a 4MP shooter with 2688x1520pixels, autofocus, LED flash, 1/3” sensor size and 2µm pixel size, face and smile detection, HDR, geo tagging, simultaneous HD video & image recording and video recording at 1080p@30fps and 720p@60fps.

The HTC One Max 32GB 4G variant can be found on amazon.com at the price of $448, while the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 costs $400.
