In terms of design and display, the iPad Air measures 240 x 169.5 x 7.5 mm and weighs 469 grams. The iPad Air 2 on the other hand, measures 240 x 169.5 x 6.1 mm and weighs 437 grams, making it both slimmer and lighter than the original Air tablet. It has an IPS LCD display measuring 9.7 inch with resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixel and a 264 ppi.

For the hardware, the iPad Air has the Apple A7 chipset that features 1.3 GHz Cyclone dual core processor as the graphics are handled by the quad core PowerVR G6430. Its RAM capacity is at 1GB, while the internal storage capacity is 16, 32, 64 or 128 GB, with no microSD card slot. The iPad Air 2 has a A8X chipset featuring a triple core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The 2 GB of RAM and 16/64/128 GB storage variants sum up the memory category, as there is no microSD support.

For the battery and camera specs, iPad Air has a total capacity of 8600 mAh and offers a total talk time of 10 hours on multimedia usage, while the iPad Air 2 has no shortage of battery, and also supports 10 hours of usage.

The iPad Air has a 5 MP camera in the back with a 2592 x 1944 resolution, and a 1.2 MP front facing lens that records 720p at 30fps, while the iPad Air 2 back camera is 8 MP and has a 3264 x 2448 resolution, while the front facing lens has 1.2 MP.

The iPad Air cost $380, while the iPad Air 2 is at $450.
