Which phablet is worth the purchase? We compare the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 to see which device is better.

In terms of design and display, both devices have very large displays as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 measures 153.5×78.6×8.5 mm and along with the S Pen stylus, it weighs 176grams. Its design is relatively similar to its predecessor’s design, featuring the same faux leather back, but the fake stitching from the edges has been removed, and the frame is made of metal, being similar to the one from the Galaxy Alpha. It has a fingerprint scanner integrated into the oval physical button, which users can use to lock and unlock their smartphone. It has a5.7 inches Super AMOLED screen and supports a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels with 515ppi.

The Huawei Ascend Mate 7 is taller than the Note 4, measuring 157 mm, 7.9mm thick, and is made of aluminum. It has thin bezels and a wide display of 6 inches, which was made using IPS LCD technology. The resolution is at 1080×1920 pixels with 368ppi, and has also a fingerprint sensor.

For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core Krait 450 clocked at 2.7GHz, coupled with Adreno 420 graphics, and an Exynos 5433 with two quad core processors clocked at 1.3GHz and 1.GHz, paired with Mali-T760. Both phablets are fitted with 3GB of RAM and have 32GB of storage, expandable up to 128GB, and the initial OS version was Android 4.4.4 KitKat, but now it’s upgradeable to Lollipop.

The Huawei Ascned Mate 7 is equipped with a HiSilicon Kirin 925 chipset with eight cores consisting of a quad core Cortex A15 clocked at 1.8GHz and a quad core Cortex A7 clocked at 1.3GHz. The CPU pairs with a Mali-T628 GPU and 2GB of RAM if opted for the 16GB variant of storage, or 3GB which couples with 32GB of internal storage. However, both memories support expansion up to 128GB, the device using the SIM 2 slot. The OS is an older version of Android, 4.4.2 KitKat.

For the battery and camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has a 3220mAh battery that last 20 hours when talking on 3G, but the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 has a more powerful and bigger battery of 4100mAh.

Both devices have rear cameras of 16MP, but only the Note 4 offers optical image stabilization. Some mutual features are autofocus, LED flash, face detection, HDR, panorama and geo tagging. However, the 5MP front camera from the Mate 7 takes over the 3.7MP secondary shooter from the Note 4.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 costs $700 on Amazon.com, while the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 16GB is at $870.
