According to the official TV Guide synopsis of "The Class Of 2015," Episode 1 of Season 3, "Season 3 begins with the introduction of 19 new cooks, who tackle their first mystery-box challenge by making a dish with only the ingredients they are given. The winner gets to pick the pasta the other contestants will prepare for the judges."

"The kids are back and taking over the kitchen. Season Three of the hit cooking competition series MASTERCHEF JUNIOR returns Tuesday, Jan. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Host and award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay and fellow judges restaurateur Joe Bastianich and acclaimed chef Graham Elliot welcome 19 of the best junior home cooks in the country between the ages of 8 and 13 - including two 8-year-olds; four 9-year-olds; three 10-year-olds; five 11-year-olds and five 12-year-olds - to the MASTERCHEF JUNIOR kitchen, where they will compete for the MASTERCHEF JUNIOR trophy and the $100,000 grand prize," explains the FOX press release.

According to Zap2it, "behind the scenes of "MasterChef Junior"...the three judges [sing] the praises of their mini-chefs as the popular cooking competition show enters its third season. "'Masterchef Junior's' not about stage kids. These are real individuals that are obsessed with the food industry. It's unique," says judge and executive producer Gordon Ramsay. "The kids are getting stronger. Based on the success of 'Masterchef Junior,' we've seen a surge. We've gone from hundreds to thousands of 8- to 13-year-olds that are dying to becoming America's next Masterchef Junior. "The underlying issue is how good they are. That's the scary part. Their knowledge is incredible, they come up with amazing dishes and they think on their feet brilliantly." The other two judges, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot, say that it's refreshing to work with kids, who have markedly different temperaments than the adult contestants. "The kids are a breath of fresh air," says Bastianich. "They are unfiltered, they have great purity to them. They have a great rawness in their cooking and also their ability to communicate. They don't lie." Elliot adds, "There's less of that cutthroat mentality. There's a definite sense of community within them and I think it's pretty cool to see that come out."
