Christiano Ronaldo Wins Ballon D'or For Real Madrid Showmanship; Footballer Delivered Emotional Speech

Reports say Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is the winner of the 2014 Ballon D'or, world's best footballer of the year award. This is his second Ballon D'or in a row and he has won three Ballon D'Ors during his careeer. Other contenders for the award included Argentina's football hero Lionel Messi and Manue Neur Bayern Munich goalkeeper.

The World's best footballer of the year award, the Ballon D'or, is reserved for the best scorer and playmaker. Sports commentators said online that Cristiano was behind the magic moments that made the season special for Real Madrid. 'Real' has invested billions in superstars like Cristiano. Other big transfers at Real Madriid are Brazil's wonder-boy Neymar, and Messi, who had beaten Pele's record for the most number of goals.

Lionel Messi was favored to captain his side to victory during the World Cup 2014. However, Messi had a disappointing game against the formidable Germans in Brazil World Cup 2014. Messi, Neur and Ronaldo were also selected for the team of the year. The team of the year roster included other stars of 2014 including Philipp Lahm, David Luiz, Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos, midfielders Andres Iniesta, Toni Kroos and Angel Di Maria and forward Arjen Robben.

The 29-year-old Real Madrid forward appeared emotional in his thank you speech and was quoted as saying in a BBC news report: "I would like to thank all of those who voted for me, my president, my coach and Real Madrid." The mega-footballer added, "It has been an unforgettable year. To win this trophy at the end of it is something incredibly unique." 

Ronaldo secured 37.66% of the votes, trailed by Messi's 15.76%, who was just ahead of Neur's 15.72% to grab the best football player of the year.
