Cristiano Ronaldo 'Golden Ball' News: Nike Celebrates Footballer's Feat With New Diamond Shoes

Cristiano Ronaldo was recently awarded the Ballon D'or or Golden Ball for 2014. In honor of his latest achievement, Nike released the 'Mercurial CR7 Rare Gold' boots.

The Nike CR7 is gold in color and has 'micro diamonds' fastened and stitched into the boots. Nike said that the diamonds are smaller parts of large stones that have already been used. Ronaldo showed off the CR7 in a recent Instagram photo.

The new release was Nike's way of paying tribute to the footballer's impressive performance in the Copa del Rey, Champions League, European Super Cup and the World Cup.

However, sports commentators are surprised by Ronaldo's second because Portugal's performance was not really that good during the 2014 World Cup. Reports have also claimed that Lionel Messi was close to bagging the title after winning first three Ballon D'ors from 2010-2012.

'It's been an unforgettable year. To win this trophy, a trophy of this kind, is something unique and all I can say is I want to continue working as I have so far, trying to go on to more titles - individual and as a team - for my mother, my father who is up there looking at there any my son," Ronaldo said in his acceptance speech.

'I can see my mother, my family. I would like to thank all those who voted for me. My coach, my fellow player, the president of my club."

'I want to get better as the days go by. I want to say to all the Portuguese that I never thought I could win this trophy on three different occasions," Ronaldo said.
